Rebels Fall During MW Block Party Match

SAN DIEGO (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team took off for an unconventional Tuesday night match in their Mountain West schedule, facing off against San Diego State for the program's Tuesday Night Block Party match.

The Scarlet & Gray (10-10, 3-6 MW) fell to San Diego State (14-5, 6-3) in the four-set match on a final score of 3-1. The final line ran as 25-19, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-19. The Rebels hit an attacking percentage of .063 on the night, San Diego State pushing a .197 rate.
 
The Rebel defense kept the Aztecs on their toes, freshman libero Kody Wengler earning a career-high 17 digs out of the team's 60 in the match. UNLV featured a pair of other student-athletes with double-digit marks in the statistical categories, Dakota Quinlan reaching 14 and Olivia Mikkelsen digging 10 on the night. The front line recorded 12 total blocks in the match, consisting of five solo blocks and 14 assists. Rheanna Deen-Jackson and Jordyn Freeman each tallied a pair of solos in the match, Deen-Jackson finding six block assists.
   
Quinlan earned a double-double with her dig total in Tuesday's match, the senior collecting a team-high 12 kills on the offense. Freeman was the only other student-athlete on the UNLV roster to compile double-digit kills in the match, recording a .563 hitting percentage on her 16 attempts to register 10 kills. Basia Latos and Gabrielle Arrecthe-Ramos rounded out the attacking efforts with eight kills each.
 
23 set assists were distributed by Arien Fafard in the match, Mikkelsen right behind her at 15 on the night. Latos recorded her second-straight match of multiple service aces with a pair against the Aztecs; Quinlan, Fafard, Alondra Alarcon and Livvy Setla each tallying one as well.

The Rebels will head back to Las Vegas and notch some final preparations for Homecoming, taking on Boise State in Cox Pavilion on Saturday, Oct. 26.
