LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football senior Jalen Catalon has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
Catalon, a native of Mansfield, Texas, collected five total tackles, a sack and an interception in a dominant 41-20 conference victory against San Diego State. Catalon's interception against the Aztecs has tied him for second in the nation with five interceptions this season.
In the second quarter, he recorded a sack for an eight-yard loss that forced an SDSU punt. Just a few drives later, Catalon intercepted a deep pass attempt and returned it 13 yards past midfield, which set up a back-breaking UNLV touchdown that made it 28-6 at halftime. Additionally, three of his five total tackles were solo stops.
