Lady Rebels Close Out Thanksgiving Classic With 64-49 Win Over ECU

Three Lady Rebels scored in double-digits and were led by McKinna Brackens’ 17 points

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV (6-2) women's basketball team closed out the UNLV Thanksgiving Classic and a five-game homestand with a 64-49 victory over East Carolina (3-4) on Friday afternoon at Thomas & Mack Center. The Lady Rebels now lead the series 1-0 between the two squads.
 
McKinna Brackens' led the Scarlet & Gray for the second straight game. Brackens collected 17 points by shooting 7-for-10 from the field, drained one three-pointer and was 2-for-3 at the free throw line. Amarachi Kimpson put up 13 points by shooting 5-for-11 from the field, two three-pointers and was 1-for-2 at the free throw line. Meadow Roland came off the bench and collected 12 points by shooting 4-for-7 from the field and on free throws. Roland and Alyssa Brown each brought down a team-high five rebounds, while Kiara Jackson dished out six assists.
 
The Pirates were led by Amiya Joyner's 11 points and Jayla Hearp's nine points. Joyner also led East Carolina in rebounds with five.
 
CONTROLLED FROM THE START: The Lady Rebels came out and put up 21 points in the first quarter and held a 21-10 lead going into the second. At the half, UNLV still held a double-digit lead at 38-24 and did not let up coming out of the break.
 
QUOTABLE: "All wins are good wins, especially during a holiday like this when there's a lot of family and different distractions that can be happening. I'm really proud of the start we had with an intense focus to execute the game plan, we got an early lead and s
stained it. We still had a lot of mistakes and different things to clean up but I'm proud we got the job done." said head coach Lindy La Rocque.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Pirates 33-31.
  • UNLV won the paint, 34-32.
  • The Scarlet and Gray did not allow East Carolina to make a three-pointer as the Pirates were 0-for-6 from the arc.
  • UNLV dished 17 assists compared to East Carolina's 12.
  • Brackens had both of the Lady Rebels' blocked shots, which tied her career high.
