LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team kicked off the weekend with a match against San Jose State on Thursday night, hosted in Cox Pavilion. The match served as a rematch between the two programs, previously meeting back in October when the Rebels visited San Jose, Calif., and won 3-1.
The Scarlet & Gray (11-13, 4-9 MW) repeated the feat with another 3-1 victory over the Spartans (13-4, 5-4) to complete the season sweep. The two teams battled tight with a final line of 34-32, 26-24, 18-25 and 25-16, the two teams battling in extras for the first two sets. The Rebels hit .260 or higher in each of the three sets they won, including a match-high .345 in the first. San Jose State fell with a final attacking line of .202, the Rebels holding them to .054 in the fourth and final set.
Freshman
Basia Latos led the offense with 17 kills, tying her career-high for the second time this season on .289 hitting.
Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos notched her third match of double-digit kills in the last four for UNLV,
Chloe Thomas right behind her with nine on the night.
Arien Fafard led the charge on set assists for the Rebels in the contest, totaling 26 with
Olivia Mikkelsen setting 17.
The Rebels tallied 10 service aces on the night, their third match of the season with double-digits in the statistical category.
Alondra Alarcon finished the matched with her second trio of aces in a single match this year,
Caleigh King and Fafard each getting a pair of their own.
Alarcon also led the program in digs, finding 15 for another career-high as the junior transfer also snagged a block assist in the match. The Rebels featured two other student-athletess with double-digit digs,
Caleigh King finding 11 and Arretche-Ramos' 10 tying her career-high as well. Freshman
Jada Ingram topped the front line's block totals with five in the contest, consisting of four block assists and one solo. Two other Rebel blockers snagged a solo block on the night in
Dakota Quinlan and Thomas, Latos setting a new career-high in blocks with a quad of assists on the night.
