Volleyball Continues Winning Ways With Win Over Bulldogs

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – Coming off their 3-1 win over San Jose State on Thursday night, the UNLV volleyball team looked to keep a win streak with a matchup against the Fresno State Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels (12-13, 5-9 MW) claimed revenge on the Bulldogs (13-12, 9-5) after falling to them earlier in the season, taking the win on a final score of 3-1. The Scarlet & Gray fell behind early in the first set, but went on to win the next three sets on a final line of 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-18.

UNLV notched several high marks in the match, junior transfer Alondra Alarcon earning a career-high five service aces on the day. She'd top the Rebel lineup with two other student-athletes with at least a pair in Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos and Livvy Setla. Setla's pair came from back-to-back serves in the final set, the team totaling double-digits for the second-straight contest.

Arretche-Ramos led the offense with 13 kills on 37 total attacks, averaging a hitting percentage of .270. Dakota Quinlan and Basia Latos both held strong performances behind GAR on the swing, the former hitting .375 with seven kills and the latter reaching a .353 mark with eight kills. Alarcon also totaled eight kills in the match to round out the team total of 47.

The defense held the Bulldog offense to a .203 attacking percentage in the match, sophomore libero Caleigh King picking up her third match of the season with 20 or more digs with 21 on the day. Arretche-Ramos would also join her in the double-digit dig mark with 10 of her own, Alarcon reaching seven to take the top-three spots of the lineup.

The blocks were led by Quinlan, the senior joining the frontline and picking up six total blocks (one solo, five assists). Arretche-Ramos found a pair of solo blocks in the contest, her first pair of solos in a single contest so far this season. The team had two student-athletes with 17 set assists in the match, both Arien Fafard and Olivia Mikkelsen topping the lineup in the statistical category.
