MINNEAPOLIS – Guided by senior Daniel Nicusan's second consecutive record evening, the men's and women's swimming teams collected 12 top-5 finishes on Friday's third day of the Minnesota Invitational at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Nicusan became the school record holder in the 100 breast with his NCAA 'B' cut time of 52.11 that landed him in third place. The top program mark was previously held by his current Rebel teammate Adnan Beji since 2022.
- Adding another top-5 finish in the 100 breast, Beji dashed to a fifth-place finish with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 52.57.
- In the 100 fly B final, redshirt freshman Emil Perez earned a third-place heat finish and 11th place overall with a time of 47.32.
- In the 100 back, sophomores Wikus Potgieter (47.30) and Tatsuki Inoue (47.43) placed 11th and 12th, respectively, while taking third and fourth in the B final.
- The Rebels' first 400 medley relay squad of Potgieter, Beji, Perez and Nicusan posted a fourth-place time of 3:10.31.
- Sophomore Ambrus Barcsak placed 11th in the 200 free (1:37.17).
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Freshman Grace Wharton won the 400 IM B final (4:17.45), taking eighth overall with the fifth-fastest time in program history. Following closely behind in third was sophomore Ava Olson (4:18.99).
- In the 200 free, junior Erika Carlson reached the wall with a time of 1:47.20.
- In the 100 breast, senior Heather Gardner clocked a fifth-place outing with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:01.11, which marked the fourth-fastest time in program history.
- Sophomore Dominika Trentkiewicz earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 back with a mark of 53.66.
- Giving the Scarlet & Gray another top-10 finish in the 100 back, freshman Halayna Montrichard came in ninth and was second in the B final (54.20). Her time moved into the seventh all-time on the UNLV record chart.
- The Rebels' 400 medley relay quartet of Montrichard, Gardner, Trentkiewicz and senior Bridget Sullivan combined for a fourth-place time of 3:40.17.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will wrap up competition at the event Saturday. Prelims will start at 8 a.m. PT, followed by the finals at 4 p.m. PT.
