LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's basketball freshman Dedan Thomas Jr. has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Saturday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
Thomas Jr., a Las Vegas native out of Liberty High School, led the Runnin' Rebels to a season sweep over then-ranked No. 25 New Mexico with an 80-77 win at the Pit. He scored a career-high 25 points, shooting eight of 12 from the field and 80 percent (8 of ten) from the charity stripe. Thomas Jr. also dished out a game-high four assists and grabbed two rebounds.
UNLV improved to 5-2 in its last seven games against ranked teams and has defeated two ranked teams in the same season for the second straight year. The Runnin' Rebels have won four of its last five games at the Pit and secured its third win in a row against the Lobos.
