LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Former UNLV standout men's tennis player Alexandr Cozbinov has joined his alma mater's coaching staff, head coach Andy Jackson announced Tuesday.
Cozbinov becomes the second assistant coach for the Rebels, joining another former UNLV player, Denys Pume, on the staff. A longtime professional player, Cozbinov has a career-high ATP singles ranking of 420 achieved in August 2023. His career-high ATP doubles ranking of 237 came in August of 2022.
"Alex was a great player for UNLV," said Jackson. "He was an NCAA qualifier, among many other achievements. He currently is a Moldovan Davis Cup player and is still active on the ATP tour. We are excited to have him as he will help in all areas of the program."
Representing his home nation of Moldova, Cozbinov also holds a career record of 15-5 in Davis Cup action. In January 2020, he participated at the ATP Cup as a member of the Moldovan team.
A three-time All-Mountain West honoree for the Rebels, Cozbinov was named the 2018 Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Year and ITA Mountain Region Senior of the Year after a season that saw him earn a spot in the NCAA Singles Tournament. His UNLV record of 74-35 included upsetting the nation's top-ranked player, Martin Redlicki of UCLA, on Feb. 10, 2018.
