FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's diving teams had two divers score career-best NCAA Zone E Diving Championship finishes as three Rebels reached their event finals on the meet's opening day Monday at Northern Arizona's Wall Aquatic Center.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
*Representing the Rebel women in the finals, senior
Vika Yanovska recorded a career-best zone finish in the 1-meter event as she took 10th with an overall 535.05. She improved upon her 34th-place finish in prelims at last year's meet.
*In her first trip to the competition, freshman
Chelsey Dorosh scored a 232.70 in the 1-meter event to finish 32nd during prelims.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
*Reaching the 3-meter competition finals in his zone debut, freshman Alex Vazquez dove to an 11th-place finish with an overall 653.10. His finish followed a strong finals effort with a 342.20 on his last six dives.
*Also making a leap to a career-best zone finish in the 3-meter event, junior
Dima Tereshchenko placed 16th with an overall 641.20. It was Tereshchenko's second straight season of qualifying for finals at the competition after he finished 18th last season.
UP NEXT: The second day of the NCAA Zone competition Tuesday will include a prelims start at 11:30 a.m. PT and finals start at 1:40 p.m. PT.
