LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 4-3 victory over Pac-12 Conference member Utah on Monday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels, who snapped a five-match losing streak against the Utes dating back to 2012, improved to 7-7 overall.
The visitors won the doubles point by taking the deciding match on court two by a 7-5 score. UNLV's win came at No. 3 where Dusan Rsovac and Thomas Navarro downed Dylan Applegate and Geremia Rossi, 6-2.
In singles, Taiyo Hirano raced to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Rossi at the fifth position to tie things. Ilia Maksymchuk then downed Bruno Krenn, 6-3, 6-4, on court two and Martin Jovenin got by Applegate, 6-4, 7-5, at the four spot. The Rebels needed to win one of the three-set matches to clinch it and did just that when Rsovac rallied past Jayson Blando, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Rsovac won both his doubles match and earned the decisive singles point to secure the team victory.
