PALO ALTO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team continued its challenging road schedule Friday afternoon, losing 7-0 to No. 41 Stanford at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
The Rebels dropped to 5-5 while the Cardinal of the Pac-12 Conference improved to 7-4.
The hosts earned the doubles point by taking the two completed matches on courts 2-3. Rebels
Jackson Atherton and
Anton Ornberg were leading 4-3 at the top of the lineup when their match was halted.
In singles, two Rebels split sets and forced a super-tiebreaker before ultimately falling.
Martin Jovenin lost to Nico Godsick at the No. 5 position, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) and Tai Horano tested No. 81 Neel Rejesh on court six before going down 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).
QUOTABLE: "We played hard and did well at spots while competing in front of Roger Federer, who was here watching his agent's son play in lineup for Stanford. They are the best team we have faced this season."
