LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golf senior Yuki Moriyama has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
A Kanagawa, Japan native, Moriyama notched his second straight win at Wyoming's Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona. He shot a career-low, single-round score of 8-under 64 in the final round, including an eagle on the 16th hole and birdie on the 18th, to break a tie for first entering the day. Moriyama finished with a career-low 54-hole score of 17-under 199, tying for the fifth-lowest score in program history and becoming the fourth Rebel to win consecutive events.
Moriyama's victory helped the Rebels to a second-place finish with a season-low tournament score of 29-under 835. This marked the squad's second runner-up and eighth top-10 finish of the season.
