Opening its home slate of games for 2024, UNLV (1-0) hosts FCS opponent Utah Tech (0-1) on Saturday starting at high noon at Allegiant Stadium ... The game will be televised by the Silver State Sports Entertainment Network (Cox channel 125 or over the air 5.2) and be streamed on the Mountain West Network ... The broadcast will be a simulcast with the Rebel radio crew ... The 1974 NCAA Division II semifinalist UNLV team will be honored at Saturday's game in honor of the 50th anniversary of its historic 12-1 season under head coach the late Ron Meyer ... Those '74 Rebels were 11-0 during the regular season and lost in Baton Rouge to Delaware in the second round of the playoffs ... In 2024, UNLV is looking to win its first two games in a season for the first time since 1999 ... The Rebels received votes in the USA TODAY Coaches Preseason Poll for the first time since 2001 with five points. This week's polls come out Tuesday because of a game being played on Labor Day ... UNLV is 33-22 all-time in home-openers, including winning its last two ... UNLV opened the campaign with a 27-7 win at Houston while Utah Tech fell to Montana State, 31-7 ... With the victory over the Cougars, Barry Odom became the first UNLV head coach to win his first two season-openers at the school since Tony Knap in 1976-77 ... UNLV returned two All-Americans for the first time in its history -- WR Ricky White III and KR/PR Jacob De Jesus. Both are preseason All-America again from multiple outlets ... The Rebels are coming off a season where they tied for their first Mountain West regular-season championship and played in a bowl game for the first time since the 2013 campaign ... UNLV in 2023 reached the nine-win mark for only the sixth time in history and first time since finishing 10-1 in 1984 when Randall Cunningham lined up at QB.

REBELS vs. TRAILBLAZERS NOTES... 
Despite being located just 119 miles apart from each other, these schools have never played in football but they used to share a nickname ... Previously known as Dixie State, the institution changed from being known as the Rebels to the Red Storm in 2009 and changed again in 2016 to the current Trailblazers moniker ... The university changed its name over to Utah Tech in 2022 ... Trailblazers head man Lance Anderson is one of 10 coaches on UNLV's schedule this season who was not the head coach at their school to start the '23 season ... Utah Tech is the first of two opponents that UNLV will meet for the first time this fall, followed by Syracuse on October 4 in Las Vegas ... Former UNLV signee Aaron Holloway is now playing WR at Utah Tech.
