Rebels Fall To No. 21 Trojans

LOS ANGELES (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team continued the Trojan / Lion Invitational on Friday night, facing off against the no. 21-ranked USC Trojans.

The Trojans (7-2) took down the Rebels (6-3) on a final score of 3-1, pushing a stat line of 25-21, 25-18, 25-27 and 25-20. Defense was the name of the game for both programs, USC only hitting .203 on the attack in the match compared to UNLV's .125.

Jordyn Freeman led all student-athletes with nine total blocks in the contest, eight stemming on block assists and one solo block. The Scarlet & Gray would total 23 blocks in the match, Chloe Thomas earning four assists to her name in the statistical category.

Offensively the Rebels were led by Thomas, the senior posting a season-high 15 kills in the game off of 33 attempts. She'd stand as the lone Rebel in double-digits, Freeman holding seven kills while Dakota Quinlan and Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos each earning five.

Caleigh King tallied her fourth match this season with at least 16 digs, the sophomore finding 16 on Friday night out of UNLV's 46. Alondra Alarcon picked up eight on the night with Arien Fafard totaling six to round out the team's top-three dig leaders.

Fafard also set out 21 assists in the match, splitting the set with Olivia Mikkelsen's 15 set assists on the night. Mikkelsen also picked up one of the team's three service aces, the other two coming from King and Rheanna Deen-Jackson.
