ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team took the road to New Mexico for a Thursday-night match against the Lobos, aiming to beat New Mexico on the road for the fifth season in a row.
The Rebels (8-4, 1-0 MW) would do just that, taking down the Lobos (7-4, 0-1 MW) on a final score of 3-1 for the second season in a row. The final line ran as 25-22, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-16. The Scarlet & Gray pushed a .235 hitting percentage against their opponent to kick off the weekend, holding New Mexico to a .127 rate and a -.029 mark in the final fourth set.
UNLV featured a handful of career-high marks during the match, several first-year Rebels making a large impact.
Basia Latos led all scorers with 17 kills on the night for the most of her young career, the Polish outside hitter notching 40 attempts and a .275 hitting percentage.
Jada Ingram entered the first match of her career on Thursday, picking up her first three kills and total five blocks that consisted of one solo and four assists.
Rheanna Deen-Jackson matched her career-high from this season with eight more blocks added to the Rebel defense, gaining a solo of her own alongside seven block assists in the match.
Alondra Alarcon totaled her highest kill count while in the Scarlet & Gray, registering 11 kills on 34 attacking attempts.
The Rebels' roster featured plenty of other highlights from the veterans,
Chloe Thomas totaling her second double-digit kill match in the last three UNLV has played in with 11 on Thursday. The senior was just as strong defensively against the Lobos, notching seven block assists to tie her career-high in a single match.
Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos would be the fourth Rebel student-athlete to total at least five blocks in the match, registering a solo of her own with four assists on Thursday.
The Scarlet & Gray found plenty of season-high totals as well in the match, sophomore
Caleigh King picking up her first 20-plus dig match of the season and the second of her career, totaling 22. Two other Rebels tallied double-digit marks in digs out of the team's 68 in the match,
Arien Fafard reaching 15 and
Olivia Mikkelsen gathering 10 against New Mexico. Fafard would lead the team on the set with 24 set assists in the match, her fourth match in the last five games of 20 or more while sharing the role with Mikkelsen this season. Mikkelsen tallied 14 assists throughout the match, King earning four and Latos picking up three.

The Rebels will look to continue the Mountain West schedule on the winning side with another conference match this weekend, facing off against Air Force on Saturday, Sept. 28. That match in USAF Academy, Colo., is set for a 12:00 p.m. PT start before returning back to Las Vegas for their home-opening weekend.
