LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV swimming and diving head coach Pat Ota announced the hiring of Dan Carrington to his coaching staff as an assistant coach on Thursday.

Most recently, Carrington served on the Penn State coaching staff from 2022-24 as associate head coach before being named the men's team's interim head coach in his final season. Overall, he brings 13 years of Division I coaching experience to Las Vegas, with previous stops as an assistant at Florida State (2016-22), Miami (Ohio) University (2014-16) and Duke (2011-14) as well as time as head coach at Southwestern University (2009-11).

"I'm very excited to work under Coach Pat Ota's leadership and with the rest of the UNLV swimming and diving staff. I look forward to continuing to drive the success of the student-athletes in and out of the pool," said Carrington.

During his tenure with the Nittany Lions, Carrington led swimmers Eduardo Cisternas and Catherine Meisner to top-10 program times in multiple events. Cisternas set the program record in the 1000 free (8:56.63) while becoming the third-fastest swimmer ever in the 1650 free (15:07.14) and 500 free (4:18.50). Meisner claimed the fourth-fastest 200 free (1:45.95) and the ninth-quickest 100 free (49.68) times in program history.
 
Before his arrival to Happy Valley, Carrington spent six seasons at Florida State. During his time with the Seminoles, the men were ranked in the final national poll of every season, while the women ranked 25th during the 2020-21 season and received votes several other years. In total, he helped the Seminoles produce six All-Americans, six ACC individual titles and 25 ACC podium performances.
 
Prior to FSU, Carrington coached at Miami (Ohio) University, producing four All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) performers, an Olympic Trials qualifier and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. He also helped the RedHawks capture a MAC title in the 200 freestyle relay for the first time in program history.
 
From 2011-14, Carrington was part of the coaching staff at Duke, where he previously began his collegiate coaching career during the 2007-08 season. Under his guidance, 12 Blue Devils earned All-ACC honors, multiple student-athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships and the Blue Devil women's 200 medley relay (2013-14) squad became the first relay team in school history to automatically qualify for the national championships.
 
Additionally, Carrington served as the head coach at Southwestern University during a three-year stint from 2009-11. He helped SU produce the first program's first NCAA automatic qualifier and All-American.

In 2011, Carrington earned the ASCA Award of Excellence, which recognizes coaches who coach a swimmer to a top-eight finish at one or several USA national championships.
 
Carrington earned his bachelor's degree from Ball State in 2002. He and his wife, Kim, have two daughters, Grace and Liana.
