Women's Soccer Uses Spirited Comeback In 3-1 Win Over CSU Bakersfield

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer team used a spirited comeback led by a brace from junior Kylie Camp en route a 3-1 win over CSU Bakersfield Thursday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

In only her fifth game back after missing last season to injury, Camp gave the Rebels (2-3) life with a 39th-minute goal and the go-ahead goal in the 64th minute after facing a 1-0 deficit against the Roadrunners (1-5). Her Scarlet & Gray junior counterpart Savannah Nichols then provided an insurance goal in the 77th minute as UNLV made its way back into the win column with three unanswered goals.

The goals marked the first of Camp's career, while Nichols knocked her first of the year into the back of the net. Camp's first came off the long free kick attempt that ricocheted off CSUB's goalkeeper and her second followed a laser of a pass to the left post for a quick header. Nichols' score came off of a scrum for the ball following Amaya Haley's free kick.

Overall, the Rebels dominated possession on the way to a second straight game with a double-digit shot count on a season-high 19 shots for an advantage over CSUB's 11. The Roadrunners briefly held the lead in shots on the Rebels when they netted their lone score in the 26h minute before UNLV stormed back.

Junior goalkeeper Hanne Breur and the Scarlet & Gray backline kept security tight between the posts in the game's final 64 minutes. She was credited with her second goalkeeper win this season.

QUOTABLE: "I'm so happy for the girls. It felt so good to get this win. There was just good energy and passion by the team. All credit goes to them. The first thing they said in the huddle was to stay humble. We've got a plan for the future. We're trying to get ready to climb up any mountain we face, be strong and stay ready as we finish the rest of our non-conference games and get into  conference season."
-UNLV Head Coach Jenny Williams

UP NEXT: UNLV will now have 10 days to prepare another home match when it takes on Cal State Fullerton in a noon matchup on Sunday, September 15.
