Rebel Women Fall Short Against Wolf Pack

RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's swimming and diving teams fell 140-101 to in-​​state rival UNR in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union meet Friday at Lombardi Pool.

Overall, the Rebels won four events and had 17 combined top-3 finishes across the individual and relay races.

THE RUNDOWN:
- Taking the first Rebel victory of the day, freshman Grace Wharton won the 200 IM after reaching the wall with a time of 2:03.64.
- Graduate student Heather Gardner claimed a victory in the 100 breast (1:02.97).
- Adding another Scarlet & Gray win was sophomore Fernanda Mendez Guerra in the 100 fly (53.90).
- Junior Erika Carlson won the 100 free with a time of 50.14 seconds. Additionally, she dashed to a second-place time of 1:48.34 in the 200 free.
- In the 1000 free, sophomore Ava Olson earned a second-place finish (10:11.01), while senior Gina Miller (10:20.92) and junior Hannah Jones (10:24.98) placed third and fourth, respectively. 
- Supplying more top-3 finishes, sophomore Dominika Trentkiewicz placed second in the 100 back (55.46), senior Briget Sullivan took third in the 50 free (23.67) and Miller put up a third-place effort in the 500 free (5:00.01).
- In the 1-meter dive, senior Vika Yanovska placed third after scoring a 262.35. Additionally, freshman Allyse Abbott finished in fourth (250.35).
- In the 3-meter dive, Yanovska dove to a second-place score of 304.05 and Abbott landed in fourth (256.65).
- The Rebels' 400 free relay 'A' team of Carlson, senior Pilar Cohen, Mendez Guerra and Sullivan teamed up for a second-place time of 3:22.19.
- The Scarlet & Gray 200 medley relay 'A' team of Trentkiewicz, Gardner, Mendez Guerra and Sullivan combined for a second-place finish (1:40.94).

QUOTABLE:  "Reno was clearly ready to go today. We had a good meet, but we didn't have enough to overcome some of their top athletes. We're ready to get back to work and prepare to come out on top at the conference championships next month."

UP NEXT: The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return home for a two-day dual meet against Wyoming from  Friday-Saturday, Jan. 24-25.
