TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell in their season-opening dual meet against Arizona State on Friday, Oct. 2, at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
On the Rebel men's side, the final score was 245-55 in favor of the No. 6 Sun Devils, while the Scarlet & Gray women's squad dropped the matchup versus No. 18 ASU by a score of 231-68.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Claiming a victory for the Rebels in the 200 fly was junior Lauren Palacios, who swam a time of 1:58.10.
- Senior Ava Olson kicked the first solo event off strong, taking second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:02.48. Olson also ended up in third in the 500 free race, finishing in 4:55.88.
- Her senior counterpart, Dominika Trentkiewicz, picked up a top-three result of her own, finishing the 100 back in 54.43 for third place.
- Both junior Allyse Abbott (239.55) and senior Hanna Held (236.03) claimed top-three spots in the 1-meter drive, taking home second and third, respectively. And in the 1-meter dive, senior Wylde Chupich earned second with a score of 235.35.
- Junior Halayna Montrichard claimed third place with a mark of 1:59.70 in the 200 back, while senior Fernanda Mendez Guerra took third with a 53.85 in the 100 fly.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Also in the 1000 free, sophomore Logan Calhoun kicked off the first men's individual event with a third-place finish, clocking a time of 9:17.65.
- Senior Alex Vazquez scored a 296.33 in the 3-meter drive to jump-start his season with a second-place finish.
- Additionally, Vazquez took home his second runner-up finish, ending with a 303.38 in the 1-meter dive.
- Sophomore Evan Stingley's mark of 258.83 landed him in 3rd in the same competition.
