THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – Junior Wyatt Plattner sits in a tie for the individual lead and UNLV stands in fourth as a team after Monday's opening round of Pepperdine's Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club (par 71, 7,081 yards).

Plattner (-5) matched his career-low round with a 66 as he and sophomore Zach Little (-1) gave the Rebels two below-par scorecards in the event's first 18 holes. The duo also contributed 10 combined birdies, dropping in five apiece, to help the Scarlet & Gray post the round's second-highest birdie count with 16.

Also representing the Scarlet & Gray lineup are seniors Caden Fioroni (+2) in a tie for 29th, Ben Sawaia (+5) in a tie for 50th and Trevor Lewis (+8) in a tie for 65th.

Holding the team day-one lead is San Diego State at 8-under 276 in a field that saw only two other teams shoot below par to start the tournament. Along with them and the Rebels (+1) in the top 5 are Vanderbilt (-2) in second, USC (-1) in third and San Jose State (+2) in fifth.

SJSU's Ivan Barahona (-5) joins Plattner atop the individual top 5, which also includes SDSU's Nathan Sampson (-4) in third, Vanderbilt's Wells Williams (-3) in fourth and five players tied for fifth.
