SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) — The UNLV men's soccer team earned its third consecutive point to remain unbeaten in WAC play Sunday night with a 1-1 draw against San Diego State at SDSU Sports Deck.
The Rebels (3-4-5, 0-0-3 WAC) received a 78th-minute goal from sophomore
Manolo Vazquez - the first of his career - on a header off the corner kick from junior
Bryce Allred. In spite of keeping their opponent out of net for 80 minutes, SDSU (5-7-1, 1-1-1 WAC) escaped with the equalizer on a penalty kick that was awarded after an unfortunate collision between UNLV goalkeeper
Hugo Lemos and an Aztec player.
Allred's assist on the Vazquez goal stretched his personal point streak to two matches after he also netted the Scarlet & Gray goal on Thursday at California Baptist.
STAT OF THE GAME: Anchored by Lemos, the Scarlet & Gray backline deterred all eight of the Aztec shots on goal that didn't come via penalty kick. Lemos made seven saves, while Vazquez headed out a dangerous 84th-minute shot near the goal line for a team save.
QUOTABLE: "We are undefeated in our last four and playing very well. Soccer is a crazy game, you can be the best team in the match and one call can change everything. That was the case tonight after we had the goal we needed. We did a great job controlling the game and now are undefeated in league play while taking points on the road. This will set us up well for a three-game homestand and we need the community to come out and cheer us on."
- UNLV Head Coach BJ Craig
UP NEXT: The Rebels will begin a three-game final homestand with a 6 p.m. match vs. Air Force on Saturday, Oct. 18.
NOTES:
- UNLV's trio of tie games to open WAC play gives them their first unbeaten streak through the squad's first three conference games since the 2014 season.
- Allred's assist gave him a team-leading five points on the season. He also became the fifth Rebel during the 2025 campaign to record an assist.
- With their non-conference finale victory over UC Irvine, the Rebels have extended their overall unbeaten streak to four matches.
