LARAMIE, Wyo. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer team came back from a one-score deficit in the second half with a goal by sophomore midfielder
Jael Kapua'ala to earn a 1-1 draw against Wyoming on Thursday at Madrid Sports Complex.
In her first game since recovering from a 2024 season-ending injury, Kapua'ala converted the equalizer on a 67th-minute penalty-kick goal awarded to the Rebels (3-6-3, 1-0-2 MW). The Scarlet & Gray score came in response to the Cowgirls' (5-3-4, 0-1-2 MW) 50th-minute goal following a scrum for a loose ball that took an unfortunate roll at the goal line.
It was a match full of comebacks for the Scarlet & Gray as junior forward
Cassie Villanueva returned after being assisted off the field in the first half to earn the penalty kick for Kapua'ala's first career goal. A lead pass from junior midfielder
Tania Tapia allowed Villanueva to make a run up the middle of the box to draw contact from a Wyoming defender.
STAT OF THE DAY: With the result, UNLV remains unbeaten through its first three conference matches for the first time since the 2007 season. Additionally, the Rebels leave Laramie with five points in the league standings.
UP NEXT: UNLV will continue its weekend on the road with a match at Colorado State on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.
