Harris Named Mountain West Offensive Player Of The Week

Harris collects her first MW weekly accolade.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV volleyball redshirt sophomore outside hitter Jaida Harris has been named the Old Trapper Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. It is Harris' first time in her career receiving the weekly award from the MW and is UNLV's fourth time receiving an award from the conference this season.

Harris and the Scarlet & Gray claimed a pair of MW wins on the week at home where they defeated New Mexico in five sets and San Diego State in four sets. The Las Vegas native averaged 5.44 kills per set, totaling 49 in two matches, along with 56 total points and hit .317. Additionally, Harris averaged 1.44 digs per set, recording 14 in total.

She began the week by posting a career-high 27 kills (.286 hitting percentage) that consisted of nine digs, three service aces, three blocks (two block assists, one solo) and one assist along with totaling 32 points against the Lobos. She then paced UNLV with her third 20+ kill match, and second straight, with a combination of 22 kills, four digs, two block assists and one service ace against the Aztecs. Harris hit .360 against SDSU where she also recorded 24 points in the match.

UNLV heads back out on the road next week with conference contests against Boise State and Utah State. The Rebels begin the trip against the Broncos Thursday at 5 p.m. PT before continuing to the northern portion of the trip to face the Aggies Saturday at 11 a.m. PT.
