TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell in their season-opening dual meet against Arizona State Friday at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
The Rebels dropped their matchup against the No. 3 Sun Devils 236-60 on the men's side, while the Scarlet & Gray women's squad fell to No. 18 ASU by a 242-57 tally.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Starting the meet strong, junior Ava Olson reeled in a second-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 9:58.35.
- Leading the Scarlet & Gray women's divers, junior Chelsey Dorosh took second in the 1-meter dive (262.65) and third in the 3-meter dive (246.45).
- Continuing with more top-three finishes, junior Fernanda Mendez Guerra earned third-place finishes in the 50 free (22.84) and 100 fly (53.25).
- Adding more top-three performances, freshman Rachel Wigginton placed third in the 200 fly (2:00.90), while Olson placed third in the 500 free (4:52.99).
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Freshman Evan Stingley won the 3-meter event (300.75), while finishing third in the 1-meter dive (270.08).
- In the 200 back, junior Tatsuki Inoue sped his way to a second-place finish in a time of 1:45.15.
- Senior Bryson Huey tallied multiple top-three finishes, placing third in the 100 fly (46.93) and 50 free (19.31).
- In another top-3 finish, freshman Luke Guerrero finished third in the 500 free (4:33.89).
UP NEXT: The Rebels will return to competition when they host BYU in their home-opening dual meet Friday, Nov. 7.
