LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's swimming team collected nine event wins en route to their 144-118 dual meet win over Utah. On the men's side, the Rebels fell 178-84 in Saturday's meet at Jim Reitz Pool.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Starting the meet, sophomore Grace Wharton earned an event victory in the 1000 free with a time of 10:03.57.
- Sweeping the top 3 spots of the 200 free, senior Erika Carlson posted a first-place time of 1:47.52, while junior Ava Olson (1:49.22) and senior Gina Miller (1:49.55) placed second and third, respectively.
- In another 1-2-3 sweep, junior Dominika Trentkiewicz took first (54.40), sophomore Halayna Montrichard placed second (54.88) and senior Averi Webb finished in third (55.85) in the 100 back.
- In the 200 fly, freshman Rachel Wigginton won the event behind a time of 2:00.81.
- In the 200 back, Wharton claimed a first-place finish (1:59.77) and Montrichard followed closely behind in second (1:59.98).
- Taking her second win of the day, Carlson won the 500 free in a time of 4:52.98. Additionally, Miller followed closely behind in second (4:53.62).
- Marking another Scarlet and Gray victory, junior Fernanda Mendez Guerra powered her way to a winning time of 54.36 in the 100 fly.
- Adding her third victory of the meet, Wharton won the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:01.56.
- The Rebels 400 free relay 'A' team of Carlson (49.40), Webb (50.81), Miller (49.20) and Mendez Guerra (50.06) ended the meet with an event victory (3:19.47).
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Senior Bryson Huey posted a victory in the 50 free, dashing to a time of 19.51.
- Adding another win for the Rebel men, junior Tatsuki Inoue swam a 1:44.79 to win the 200 back.
- Junior Nate Thomason posted two second-place finishes in the 100 breast (54.99) and 200 breast (2:00.26).
- Marking a 1-2 finish in the 100 fly, junior Wikus Potgieter earned a first-place time of 47.34, while Huey followed in second place (47.74).
- The 400 free relay team consisting of junior Ambrus Barcsak (45.18), redshirt sophomore Emil Perez (43.24), Potgieter (43.68), and Huey (42.87) ended the night strong with an event victory (2:54.97).
QUOTABLE: "Congrats to our women. It took a lot of grit to beat two Big 12 teams in one weekend. They raced very well and fought hard for both wins. The men swam well, but we need to find a way to get their hand on the wall first."

UP NEXT: The UNLV men's and women's diving teams will head to the Golden State for the Trojan Diving Invitational hosted by USC from Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 20-22 at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. On the swimming side, the Scarlet & Gray returns to competition next month at the Minnesota Invitational being held from Dec. 4-6.
