LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams collected eight event wins and 33 top-10 finishes on the second day of the UNLV Finis Invitational Tuesday at Jim Reitz Pool.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Earning an event victory in the 100 fly, sophomore
Lauren Palacios swam a 53.84 to win the event.
- The Rebel women had three top-5 finishes in the 200 free, senior
Erika Carlson won the event behind a season-best time of 1:46.41, while sophomore
Grace Wharton took second with a season-best time of 1:49.15 and Miller placed fifth (1:49.62).
- Claiming a win in the 100 back, Trentkiewicz swam a season-best time of 53.53.
- Ending the night for the Rebel women, the 800 free relay 'A' team of Carlson, Olson, Miller and Wharton won with a season-best time of 7:19.17
- In a second-place finish of the 200 medley relay, the squad of junior
Dominika Trentkiewicz, senior
Erika Carlson, sophomore
Lauren Palacios and senior
Gina Miller combined for a season-best time of 1:40.70.
- In the 100 breast, sophomore
Brinkley Hallgren claimed a fifth-place finish with a season-best time of 1:03.76, while senior
Ava Olson finished closely behind in sixth with a season-best time of 1:03.82.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Taking a victory in the 100 fly, senior
Wikus Potgieter swam a winning time of 47.09. Additionally, senior
Ian Belflower earned a fourth-place finish in the event (47.44).
- In another event win for the Scarlet & Gray men, junior
Ambrus Barcsak dialed up a winning time of 1:35.74 in the 200 free. Sophomore
Gabriel Schreiber also posted a fifth-place finish in the same event (1:38.92).
- In a Rebel victory of the 100 breast, sophomore
Yamato Lucero won the event with a time of 53.82. Additionally, junior
Nate Thomason took fifth (54.97).
- In a 1-2 finish of the 100 back, junior
Tatsuki Inoue posted a first-place finish with a time of 47.15, while Potgieter placed second with a season-best time of 47.51.
- Reeling in a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, the group of Inoue, Lucero, redshirt sophomore
Emil Perez and sophomore
Lucas Diermayr teamed up for a time of 1:27.46.
- In the 800 free relay, the Scarlet & Gray 'B' squad of Perez, Diermayr, sophomore
Tyler Schneider and Potgieter took second in a time of 6:38.13.
- Posting a top-5 finish in the 400 IM, freshman
Logan Calhoun earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:58.72.
UP NEXT: The UNLV Finis Invitational will conclude on Wednesday with swimming prelims at 9:30 a.m. PT, followed by swimming finals at 5 p.m. PT.
