Tyrin Jones Named Old Trapper Mountain West Men's Basketball Freshman Of The Week

Jones scored a career-high 18 points on a perfect 7 of 7 shooting in UNLV's conference-opening win over Fresno State on Saturday.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Tyrin Jones was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Jones scored a career-high 18 points in UNLV's Mountain West season-opening 84-72 win over Fresno State at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday. It was the Runnin' Rebels' lone game of the week.

The Las Vegas native, who attended Layton Christian Academy in Utah, was perfect from the field as he made all seven of his attempts, along with all four of his free throws.

Jones also grabbed five rebounds, had three blocks, three assists, and a steal in over 38 minutes of action. His plus/minus was second on the team at +18.

This was the first Mountain West weekly honor for Jones and the first for UNLV this season.
