LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Five different Lady Rebels scored in double-digits as the UNLV women's basketball team defeated Fresno State 85-59 on New Year's Eve afternoon at The Pavilion. The Scarlet & Gray (8-5, 3-0) have now won 10 straight against the Bulldogs (7-7, 1-2).
Mariah Elohim put up a season-high 17 points to lead UNLV. Elohim shot 7-for-12 from the field and was 3-for-7 from long range.
Shelbee Brown and
Jasmyn Lott each tallied 15 points.
Shelbee Brown brought down a team-high nine rebounds on the day.
Meadow Roland collected 14 points, while
Aaliyah Alexander had 13 points, respectively. Alexander and Lott each dished five assists to lead the Scarlet & Gray.
The Bulldogs were led by Jaisa Gamble's 13 points and Djessira Diawara's 11 points. Danae Powell was the leading rebounder for Fresno State, as she brought down seven boards.
TURNING POINT: The Lady Rebels and Bulldogs were tied 14-all early on in the second quarter. After exchanging baskets to remain tied at 18-all, UNLV then went on a 12-2 scoring run to take a 30-20 lead and never looked back.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Lady Rebels and Bulldogs were tied five times throughout and exchanged the lead three times.
OTHER NOTES:
- Lott's five assists against the Bulldogs were a career-high. She also had five rebounds, which put her at 100 career rebounds.
- Roland has reached the 500+ career points mark and 300+ career rebounds mark.
- The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Bulldogs 38-30.
- UNLV won the paint party 38-34.
- The Scarlet & Gray dished 19 assists compared to Fresno State's 10 assists.
- UNLV forced 12 Fresno State turnovers and scored 10 points off them.
