Lady Rebels Win 65-50 Over UNR

RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Lady Rebels collected a 64-50 victory over in-state rival UNR on Saturday afternoon at Lawlor Events Center. The Scarlet & Gray (21-5, 13-1) completed the two-game regular season sweep over the Wolf Pack (11-16, 6-8). This game is part of the Silver State series presented by America First.
 
UNLV had four players put up double-digit points and were led by Aaliyah Alexander who had 18 points. Alexander shot 7-for-12 from the field, 2-for-4 from the three-point line and was 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Kiara Jakckson and Amarachi Kimpson each had 12 points, while McKinna Brackens put up 11 points. Jackson led the squad in assists with three and Meadow Roland was the leading rebounder with seven boards. Brown had four steals out of the Lady Rebels 11 total.
 
The Wolf Pack were led by Lexie Givens and Dymonique Maxie. Givens had 12 points while Maxie had 11 points and five rebounds.
 
GAME OF RUNS: The Lady Rebels started the game with a nine-point scoring until the Wol Pack went on an 11-3 ruo to get within one, 12-11. UNLV closed out the first quarter up by three, 16-13. The Scarlet & Gray then went on a 10-1 run in the second quarter to go up by double-figures, 26-15. Before heading into the break, UNLV scored two free throws and a layup to hold a 32-19 lead. After halftime, the Lady Rebels went on a 13-4 run to make it 45-23 with 5:08 left in the third. However, the Wolf Pack went on their longest scoring run of eights before heading into the final frame, but the Scarlet & Gray were sitll up by 14, 47-33. In the final 10 minutes of play, UNLV and UNR went back and forth, but the Lady Rebels were still ahead and did not let off the gas.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • UNLV only allowed UNR to score six points in the second quarter.
  • Jackson's three assists tonight puts her at third all-time in career assists leaders with 436. She passed assistant coach Mia Bell's 434.
  • The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Wolf Pack 34-23.
  • UNLV had 11 steals against UNR.
  • The Lady Rebels painted the paint red in Lawlor Events Center, out-scoring the Wolf Pack 40-30 in the paint.
  • Under head coach Lindy La Rocque, UNLV is now 9-2 against UNR.

UP NEXT: The Lady Rebels will have another midweek bye before hitting the road again to visit Colorado State on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 12 PM PT/1 PM MT.
