LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team remained unbeaten this season with a 6-1 win over Idaho State on Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 6-0 while the Bengals fell to 5-4.
The opening doubles point was hotly contested even after Rebels
Cindy Hu and
Coco Zhao improved to 14-2 this season with a 6-0 win at No. 2 over Sydney Morris and Millie Day. ISU won on court three, 6-4, but
Hanna Vinahradava and
Nikol Mircheva rallied at the top of the lineup to down Stefanya Shalakhova and Asem Shoybek, 7-5, to give their team a 1-0 lead.
In singles, the hosts clinched the overall match after the top half of the lineup quickly won in straight sets. Hu downed Shoybek, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1;
Veronica Kliuch defeated Shalakhova, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2; and Zhao swept Day, 6-2, 6-0, on court three.
Kaho Oyama eventually finished off her match over Olivia Mikkelson, 6-4, 6-2, at the fifth position while the remaining two matches both went to a super-tiebreaker, including Mircheva outlasting Morris, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 4.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Coco Zhao, who is UNLV's all-time leader in doubles winning percentage at .812, teamed with
Cindy Hu for a shutout at No. 2 and then rolled in her singles match on court three to improve to 12-2 during her senior season.
UP NEXT: UNLV will host another three matches next weekend, starting with Colorado out of the Big 12 Conference on Friday at 10 a.m. All matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex are free of charge.
