LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team lost for the first time this season, 4-1, at the hands of visiting Colorado Friday morning at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The Rebels fell to 6-1 while the Buffaloes of the Big 12 Conference improved to 6-1 while leveling the all-time series between the western foes at 6-6.
 
Doubles played a huge role in the match and was equally hard fought to start things. UNLV's Hanna Vinahradava and Nikol Mircheva downed Aya El Sayed and Pia Rebec at the top of the lineup, 6-2, before CU won 6-4 at No. 3. The decider would come on court two where Coco Zhao and Cindy Hu, two of the winningest doubles players in school history, came in with a sparkling 14-2 mark this season, including 6-0 in duals. However, Anaya Nelxon and Rixt van der Werff upset the Rebel duo, 7-5, to earn their team a 1-0 lead.
 
In singles, CU built a 3-0 advantage while the hosts were battling on all four remaining courts, including Mircheva getting her team on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fourth position. The Rebels were up a set at No. 5 and early in a third set at No. 2 when the Buffs clinched the key fourth point at the top with a 6-4, 6-4 final.
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Nikol Mircheva teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match and then scored her team's only point in singles.  
 
UP NEXT: UNLV will be right back on the courts Saturday when it hosts New Mexico State starting at 10 a.m. All matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex are free of charge.
