Runnin' Rebels Record Regular-Season Sweep Of San Jose State With 77-71 Road Win

Jaden Henley led UNLV with a career-high 22 points, while four others tallied double-digits in scoring Tuesday night.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com)The UNLV men's basketball team (15-13, 9-8) recorded its second-straight regular-season sweep of San Jose State with a 77-71 road win Tuesday night.

It was the Runnin' Rebels' fourth victory in their last five games, but their first without starting point guard Dedan Thomas Jr. He missed his second straight game with an injury.

Five UNLV players scored in double figures in the same game for the third time this season, led by Jaden Henley's career-high 22 points. Jalen Hill added 17, Bear Cherry scored 14, Jailen Bedford contributed 13 and Julian Rishwain tallied 11.

The Spartans (13-17, 6-12) were led by Josh Uduje's 27 points and seven rebounds. Latrell Davis added 16 points and Jermaine Washington scored 10.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV shot 50.9% from the field (28-55), improving its record this season to 6-0 when shooting 50% or better.

PROTECTING THE BALL: After turning the ball over eight times in the first six minutes of the game, UNLV committed just six miscues the rest of the game. In fact, the Runnin' Rebels had only one turnover in the final 9:30 of the contest.

BACK AND FORTH: The game had nine lead changes and eight ties throughout. UNLV's largest lead was nine points early in the second half (47-38).

CLUTCH FREE THROWS: UNLV shot 16 of 21 from the free-throw line, making the most important ones when it really mattered. In the final 19 seconds, SJSU cut its deficit to three multiple times and just two points once, but Henley and Hill were a perfect 6 of 6 from the line during that span keeping the Spartans at bay. For the game, those two combined to make 12 of 14 free throws.

We did a good job competing, battling and doing everything we could in a situation that was tough with guys out. We are really happy for them. OTHER NOTES: 
- UNLV improved its lead in the all-time series with San Jose State to 49-8.
- UNLV has won four straight against the Spartans and 14 of the last 16 overall.
- This marked the second straight season that UNLV swept the series with SJSU.
- UNLV improved to 22-5 all-time at SJSU and has now won eight of its last nine on the road against the Spartans.
- Henley's previous career high in scoring was 19 points (three times).
- UNLV also had five players score in double figures against UC Riverside and Air Force this season.
- UNLV's other series sweeps this season were against Fresno State and Air Force.
- Henley also added five assists and four steals.
- Hill recorded nine rebounds, Cherry had eight and Rishwain grabbed seven.
- UNLV out-rebounded San Jose State 38-31.
- SJSU scored 19 points off of UNLV's 14 turnovers.
- UNLV led in points in the paint 38-28 and SJSU led in bench scoring 28-13.
- UNLV held a 35-31 halftime lead, improving to 15-2 when holding the advantage at the break.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,255 straight games.



NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will return home to the Thomas & Mack Center to host intrastate rival UNR on Friday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. The game, which will be televised nationally on FS1, will be part of the Silver State Series, presented by America First Credit Union.
