COLORADO SPRINGS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team earned its first Mountain West victory of the season in thrilling fashion, 4-3, at Air Force Friday evening at the USAFA Courts.
The Rebels improved to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the MW while the Falcons, who lost for only the second time in nine home matches this season, fell to 10-9 overall and 1-2.
Playing outdoors to start things, UNLV captured the doubles point by taking the first two completed matches.
Ilia Snitari and
Thomas Navarro won 6-4 at the top of the lineup while
Illia Maksymchuk and
Roberto Hernandez won 6-3 over their opponents on court two.
In singles, Vitaly Horivoy won 6-4, 6-4 over Alec Fritzinger at No. 4 and Snitari remained undefeated as a Rebel with a come-from-behind, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Phillip Deaton at the top spot. Tied at three and now playing on the academy's indoor courts, the overall match would come down to the third position and Navarro gutted out a 7-5, 6-4 victory over AJ Moore.
UP NEXT: UNLV closes its road schedule with a visit to New Mexico on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. PT. After that, the Rebels' Senior Day home finale vs. UNR is set for Thursday at 4 p.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
