SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team fell just one set short of earning a piece of the Mountain West Regular-Season Championship, losing 4-3 at No. 49 San Diego State on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Rebels finished the regular season 16-6 overall and 7-3 in MW play while the Aztecs improved to 16-6 and 9-1 in the Mountain West.
 
SDSU took a 1-0 lead after a rare doubles point loss by UNLV.
 
In singles, Coco Zhao got her team on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Gloria Alogo at No. 3. Nikol Mircheva also swept her opponent, Zoe Olmos, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4. Veronika Kliuch rallied on court two to tie things with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jo-Yee Chan. All eyes moved to the top of the lineup as after splitting sets, SDSU's Yasmine Kabbaj fought off Cindy Hu, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, to give her team the outright title.
 
UP NEXT: The Rebels will play in next week's Mountain West Tournament, which will be staged at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
