LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team earned a 2-1 walk-off ninth inning victory over San Jose State in game one of the two-game Mountain West series on Friday at Eller Media Stadium.

The Rebels (20-22, 3-12 MW) and Spartans (18-23, 5-10 MW) were scoreless for seven innings to force an extra inning. In the eighth, both sides were held off the scoreboard again. It wasn't until the top of the ninth inning, when San Jose State scored the game's first run on an RBI single to right center, but the Rebels countered with a two-run single to left by
Charelle Aki to collect the victory.
Jesse Farrell, Aki,
Bri Williams and
Maddie Scott each had a hit against San Jose State on the day.
Yanina Sherwood went the distance throwing a complete game of 9.0 innings to collect her ninth victory of the season. Sherwood only allowed one earned run and struck out five Spartans.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Rebels and Spartans held each other off the scoreboard for the entirety of the game, which forced two extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, San Jose State had a runner in scoring position with two outs, but Sherwood sat down the Spartans for the third out. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Rebels also had a runner in scoring position with two outs, but were retired on a loud out to right field. In the top of the ninth inning, San Jose State had runners one first and second with two outs. The Spartans' next batter singled to right center, bringing in the first run of the game to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the ninth,
Jesse Farrell led things off with a beautiful single up the middle.
Sofia Morales put down a beauty sacrifice bunt to third, to move Farrell to second.
Ariana Martinez then walked to give UNLV runners on first and second.
Karmyna Becerra hit a deep fly ball to left field, and both runners tagged up to advance. Now with runners on second and third,
Charelle Aki came to the plate. On a full count, and had just fouled a ball off, Aki then roped a single down the left field line scoring both runs to give the Rebels a 2-1 walk-off victory.

OTHER NOTES:
- Yanina Sherwood's 9.0 innings pitched, tied her career high.
- The Rebels drew two walks, which were by Bri Williams and Ariana Martinez.
- Aki had the squad's only two RBI on the day.
- Farrell and Burnett scored runs for UNLV.
- Farrell is now on a seven-game hitting streak and has reached base in 10 consecutive games.
- Martinez has now reached base in four straight games, while Aki has reached base in three consecutive games, respectively.
- This was the Rebels' fourth extra-inning game of the season.
