RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team fell in both games of the Mountain West midweek doubleheader to rival UNR on Wednesday at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park. This series is part of the Silver State Series presented by America First.

The Rebels (18-19, 2-9 MW) went back-and-forth in a showdown with the Wolf Pack (28-9,6-2 MW), but dropped 5-4 in game one. UNLV was unable to climb back in game two and fell 4-2.
Charelle Aki had a career day at the plate in game one going 2-for-3 which included a double, home run, three RBI and crossed the plate once.
Jesse Farrell led the Scarlet & Gray offense through two games with a combined 3-for-7 which included two doubles and a home run.

GAME 1: UNLV 4, UNR 5

In the top of the first inning, the Rebels capitalized on a two-out rally.
Bri Williams drew a walk to get the rally going.
Jesse Farrell then stepped to the plate and roped a double to left center to give UNLV runners in scoring position.
Charelle Aki followed with a double to left center of her own, bringing in Williams and Farrell to give the Scarlet & Gray a 2-0 lead. The Wolf Pack cut the deficit in half with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.
Maggie Vasa smacked her first home run of the season, over center field in the top of the second putting UNLV up 3-1. UNR tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run home run, 3-all. The fourth was scoreless by both sides and UNLV went back ahead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a solo blast over the left field wall by Aki. The Wolf Pack countered and took the lead in the bottom half of the fourth scoring two runs on three hits, 5-4. Both squads were held off the board in the sixth inning and in the top of the seventh inning, the Rebels were retired in order.

GAME 2: UNLV 2, UNR 4

The Wolf Pack jumped out front in the bottom of the first inning scoring one run on two hits, 1-0. In the bottom of the second inning, UNR added another on a solo home run, 2-0. In the top of the fourth inning,
Jesse Farrell had the Rebels within one, after sending one out the park over the center field wall, 2-1. In the top of the fifth inning, the Rebels took advantage of a wild pitch and a throwing error to tie the game 2-all. UNR grabbed two more runs on back-to-back home runs to go up 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth. The sixth was scoreless and in the top of the seventh inning, the Rebels tried to get a two out rally going, but was retired for the final out on a pop fly in the outfield.

UP NEXT: UNLV will have an off-weekend before going back on the road for a three-game MW series at San Diego State beginning on Friday, April 11 and concluding on Sunday, April 13.
