LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team completed the comeback and defeated New Mexico, 4-3, in game two of the three-game Mountain West series on Friday at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels (23-25, 6-15 MW) and Lobos (21-29-1, 6-15 MW) will play a rubber match on Saturday in the series finale.

The first three innings was a pitcher's duel until New Mexico went ahead 1-0 in the top of the fourth. UNLV tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. After the Lobos took the lead 3-1, the Rebels found themselves ready to make a comeback. The Scarlet & Gray scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to collect the comeback.
Ariana Martinez was 1-for-2 on the day and collected her 200th career RBI to increase her current program record. Martinez also had two walks and scored a run.
Charelle Aki was 2-for-3 against the Lobos including a walk and two RBI.
Yanina Sherwood went the distance en route for her 11th complete game of the season and her 12th victory.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: After three scoreless innings by both teams, the Lobos got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single to make it 1-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rebels had bases loaded with two outs.
Charelle Aki then drew a walk on a full count that brought in a runner for UNLV to tie the game, 1-all. The Lobos went back ahead in the top of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on a single to right center, 3-1. UNLV held New Mexico off the board in the top of the seventh.
Bri Williams came in to pinch hit to lead things off in the bottom of the seventh. With a 3-1 count, Williams roped a double off the left center wall to give UNLV a runner on second with no outs.
Ariana Martinez then came to the plate, and with a 1-0 count, smacked a single up the middle to get UNLV with one, 3-2. After the first out,
Karmyna Becerra hit a double to left center on the first pitch she saw and brought Martinez around to tie the game 3-all.
Charelle Aki stepped into the box, and on a 1-0 count hit a single through the right side to bring in the game-winning run and made it 4-3 in favor of UNLV.

OTHER NOTES:
- Kaliani Olivas and Bri Williams each were 1-for-1 against New Mexico. Olivas also crossed the plate once.
- Amelia Weber and Maggie Vasa each scored a run for the Rebels.
- Becerra, Aki and Williams each had a double on the day.
- The Rebels rolled four double-plays against the Lobos.
- Martinez is now on a six-game hitting streak and has reached base in 10 straight games.
- Becerra has now reached base in five consecutive games and is now on a five-game hitting streak.
- Sherwood is only four strikeouts away from 100 career strikeouts in her freshman campaign.
- Sofia Morales is three hits away from 200 career hits.
