Men's Soccer Completes Comeback In Season-Opening Win Over LMU

Junior forwards lead way with Nick Legendre's 63rd-minute equalizer and Tyler Ware's 80th-minute game-winner

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV men's soccer completed a comeback from a one-goal deficit to earn a 2-1 win over LMU in its season opener Thursday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

A pair of goals from junior forwards paved the way for the Rebels (1-0) against the Lions (0-1) as Nick Legendre scored the equalizer assisted by Jonah Craig in the 63rd minute and Tyler Ware added the 80th-minute game-winner on a free kick from atop the box. Those scores marked Legendre's first goal in a UNLV kit and Ware's second career game-winning score.

Providing a strong backbone to the Scarlet & Gray attack, junior goalkeeper Hugo Lemos and the Rebels' backline deterred nine total shots and three on goal outside of LMU's lone goal in the 49th minute. Lemos came away with three saves and the victory in 90 minutes.

QUOTABLE: "It was a gritty performance tonight against a well-organized opponent. I am proud of how we came back from behind and found a way to win. We need to keep improving and this was a great start for us."
-UNLV Head Coach BJ Craig

UP NEXT: The Rebels begin a two-game road trip next week with a 4 p.m. match at Seattle on Thursday, Aug. 28. They then remain in Seattle for a 7:30 p.m. tilt at Washington on Sunday, Aug. 31.
