Rebels Hold On For Draw In Home Opener Vs. Utah Tech
8/22/2025 12:08:00 AM | Women's Soccer
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – In spite of playing down a player in the final 28 minutes, UNLV women's soccer held on for a 1-1 draw vs. Utah Tech in its home opener Thursday at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Senior forward Cadence Whitley (0-1-1) put the Rebels on the board in the 11th minute against the Trailblazers (1-1-1) as junior forward Cassie Villanueva poked the ball away from defenders to set up the finish in the box. Notwithstanding a 49th-minute Utah Tech equalizer, UNLV senior goalkeeper Hanne Breur showed poise a minute later with a crucial save on a Utah Tech penalty kick to keep things tied.
In the box, the Scarlet & Gray kept things tightened on the way to denying 14 shots faced against the Trailblazers. Breur ended her night with seven saves.
UP NEXT:Â The Rebels head out on the road again for a 2 p.m. match at UC San Diego on Sunday.
