Rebels' Four-Match Win Streak Snapped, Falls To Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (5-3) was unable to hold onto its early lead in Saturday's 3-1 affair (25-18, 20-25, 18-25, 24-26) with the Oregon State Beavers on the third and final day of the ASICS Invitational. The Rebels claimed the first set with ease; however, the Beavers fought back to even the score at 1-all with a win in the second. The fourth set saw the Scarlet & Gray one point away from forcing a fifth set up 24-23, but OSU went on a 3-0 run to clinch the set (26-24) and match.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: OSU outhit UNLV by 20 points (.145 to .164) and had 12 more kills (44-56), but the Beavers committed six more errors (30-24) in 20 more attack attempts (158-138). The Rebels recorded better hitting efficiencies in the first and fourth set, including a team-best .219 in the first. Unfortunately, their attackers misfired nine times in the third and six more in the fourth en route to .026 and .156 efforts, respectively. The Beavers topped out at .263 in the second, but was limited to .154 or lower hitting in the three other sets. Oregon State led in assists (49-43) and digs (58-56), while the Rebels were tops in total team blocks (36.0-24.0) and service aces (7-3).

Alarcon posted a team-high 15 kills with nine digs, three service aces, three block assists and one assist while hitting .263 overall. Sophomore middle blocker Rheanna Deen-Jackson posted a career-high 13 blocks (11 block assists, two solo blocks) with two kills and one dig. Junior libero Caleigh King captured her fourth double-digit dig performance and second straight with a season-high 16 in the contest as she also collected five assists and one service ace.

Sophomore outside hitter Basia Latos posted 12 kills, five block assists and two digs, while Jada Ingram captured six block assists along with five kills and a pair of service aces. After recording a career-high 22 assists yesterday afternoon against Montana State, freshman setter Kaia Thiele recorded a career-high 24 assists with six digs.

​​STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV posted a season high in blocks with 36 as they notched 26 total blocks in their previous two matches in the Beaver State. 

UP NEXT: UNLV returns to Las Vegas and The Pavilion for its Dig In The Desert next weekend. The Scarlet & Gray will welcome UC Riverside and Southern Utah for the three-day affair Sept. 18-20.
