LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer team picked up its first Mountain West win of the season in shutout fashion, 1-0, over Fresno State at Peter Johann Memorial Field on Sunday.
The Rebels' (3-6-2, 1-0-1 MW) senior duo of
Mallie Ramirez and
Cadence Whitley, who both hail from Fresno's neighboring town of Clovis, California, connected for the match's lone score against the Bulldogs (4-3-3, 1-1-0 MW) in the 30th minute. Ramirez netted the eventual game-winning goal on the direct feed from Whitley that was set up by a
Michelle Madrid cross to the left of the box.
With the result, the Scarlet & Gray end the weekend unbeaten in MW play with four points after also securing a draw vs. San Jose State in its conference opener. This marks the third straight season UNLV has started the conference slate with at least three points against its first two league opponents.
