Rebels Begin Road Trip With Sweep Of California Baptist

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (2-2) began its road trip with a convincing sweep (25-15, 25-13, 25-23) of California Baptist (1-4) on Friday afternoon at the Santa Clara Mission Classic in the Leavey Center. The Rebels outhit the Lancers by 244 points (.363 to .119) and eight fewer errors (7-19) in 10 fewer attack attempts (91-101).

HOW IT WENT DOWN: After building a 2-0 lead, the Scarlet & Gray was forced to fight back against the Lancers in the third - a frame that featured 15 ties and 13 lead changes. After going on a 3-0 run to make it 19-5 Rebels, California Baptist went on a 5-0 run to take a 20-19 lead. UNLV and CBU went back-and-forth for the next seven points that ultimately saw the match tied, 23-23. Jaida Harris came through with two straight kills to end the match and secure the team's second sweep of the young season.

Rheanna Deen-Jackson had an impressive match on both sides of the ball as the middle blocker collected six kills on seven total attempts with three block assists, one dig and one service ace. Logan Lindsay, who totaled six kills in her previous two matches played, tacked on a season-high six kills with one dig, one assist and one block assist. Caleigh King put together double-digit digs for the first time this season with 13 and also recorded a service ace. Senior Alondra Alarcon put together a stat line of six kills, five digs and one assist, while Alexa Ankerstar notched a career-high 16 assists and four digs.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV notched 25 more kills in the match (42-17), and that figure is the largest margin posted by its offense in a match this season. Along with Harris' stellar afternoon, the trio of Alarcon, Deen-Jackson, and Lindsay registered six kills.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Harris registered a season-high 18 kills along with six digs and three services aces. The redshirt sophomore tallied a .417 clip (18-3-26) and was one kill away from matching a career-high in the category.

UP NEXT: The Rebels will close out the Santa Clara Mission Classic against the host Broncos on Saturday, September 6 at 3 p.m. PT with the match being streamed on ESPN+.
