Lady Rebels Earn 69-58 Victory Against Utah State To Remain Undefeated In MW Play

Jasmyn Lott led UNLV with a career-high 23 points over the Aggies

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Three Lady Rebels scored in double-digits as the UNLV women's basketball team earned a 69-58 win against Utah State on Wednesday night at The Pavilion. This marks the fourth straight season the Scarlet & Gray (10-5) have started league play 5-0.
 
Jasmyn Lott led the way with a career-high 23 points by shooting 9-for-14 from the field, 3-for-6 from long range and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Meadow Roland and Shelbee Brown each collected double-doubles for the Lady Rebels. Roland tallied 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Shelbee Brown had 16 points and 16 rebounds, respectively. Roland additionally had a team-high three blocked shots.
  
The Aggies (6-8, 2-3) were led by Marina Asensio and Sophie Sene. Asensio had a team-high 16 points, while Sene recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.
 
GAME OF RUNS: After Utah State scored the first two baskets of the game, UNLV went on a 13-4 run to take a 12-8 lead. The Lady Rebels then closed out the first quarter with an 8-2 run to stay ahead going into the second, 20-12 . The Aggies then tallied the first basket of the second quarter, but the Scarlet & Gray scored nine straight points to make it 29-14. Utah State tried to erase the double-digit lead with five points, but UNLV drained one more bucket to go into the break up 39-28. Following halftime, the Aggies and Lady Rebels exchanged baskets before UNLV went on an 11-3 run and made it 52-36. Trystan James completed a three-point play with 1:11 left in the third quarter to give UNLV a 56-43 as the game went into the fourth. In the final 10 minutes of play, the Lady Rebels and Aggies went back and forth before Utah State went on its longest scoring run of the game with seven straight points to cut the deficit back to single digits, 66-58. However, Alexander sank a huge three-pointer to give UNLV back a double-digit lead, 69-58, and secure the victory.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • This marked the fifth double-double of the season for Roland and the fourth double-double of the season for Shelbee Brown.
  • This was the third 20-point game for Lott this season.
  • Aaliyah Alexander was tied with Shelbee Brown for the team-lead in assists with three each.
  • The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Aggies 47-32.
  • UNLV won the paint battle 32-28.
  • The Scarlet & Gray had scored 19 second chance points.
  • Under head coach Lindy La Rocque, UNLV is now 10-0 against Utah State.

UP NEXT: UNLV will hit the road for the next Mountain West contest, visiting Wyoming on Saturday, Jan. 10. The Lady Rebels and Cowgirls will tip-off at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT at the Arena-Auditorium.
