SATURDAY'S PREVIEW...
Coming off its second bye week, UNLV (4-3/2-1) hosts NIU (0-7/0-3) Saturday night looking for its first-ever win over the Huskies ... The Rebels have already played in FIVE different time zones this season and are the only FBS program scheduled to do so in 2026 ... UNLV is playing on Halloween, which is also officially Nevada Day (the date we became the 36th U.S. state in 1864), for the first time since hosting UNR in 2020 in what was its first game ever played at Allegiant Stadium ... The Rebels are 2-7 in games waged on this holiday with their most-recent haunting victory coming way back in 1992, 35-31, at home over San Jose State ... UNLV is tied for 16th in the nation for the most wins (25) in the FBS since the start of 2024 ... The Rebels are 7-2 at home under second-year head coach Dan Mullen and have won 17 of their last 23 at Allegiant Stadium dating back to the final game of 2022 ... Even after adding the recent loss at AFA, the Rebels are 31-2 since the start of 2023 when leading after the third quarter, including 12-1 under Mullen (the other loss came vs. Boise State in 2024 after UNLV led 24-23 starting the fourth quarter) ... In the Rebels' last home game, the seven NDSU points were the fewest by a UNLV MW opponent at home since a 27-0 shut out of Utah 27-0 in 2007 at Sam Boyd Stadium ... Combined with surrendering just six points at Hawaii on Sept. 5, UNLV has held two league opponents to single digits for the first time since 1986 ... Rebel QB Jackson Arnold threw his first interception of the season vs. NDSU on Oct. 10 after 142 attempts without one, which marked the third-longest stretch in school history and a program record to start a career. The Auburn transfer currently leads the league with 16 total TDs responsible for -- ranking 2nd in passing TDs (10) and 3rd in rushing scores (6).
REBELS vs. HUSKIES NOTES...Â
UNLV and NIU have met five times before on the football field and the Huskies won all five, including the most recent, 38-30, to close out a non-conference home-and-home series in 2015 ... The last matchup played in Las Vegas resulted in a wild 48-34 final in 2014 ... The Rebels and Huskies actually played as league foes once before -- in 1995 when NIU and UNLV were both members of the Big West Conference ... The Rebels left the BWC for the WAC the following season while NIU was between stints in the Mid-American Conference before eventually joining the Mountain West in only football starting this fall ... The Rebels are 3-9 all-time vs. teams from the Land of Lincoln (1-0 vs. Illinois State, 2-1 vs. Western Illinois, 0-5 vs. NIU and 0-3 vs. Northwestern)
