Rebels Win 16 Events In Defeat At Grand Canyon

PHOENIX (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams collected 16 wins and 44 top-3 finishes despite being swept by Grand Canyon Saturday at Fr Edward A. Reese Aquatic Center.

On the women's side, the Rebels were defeated by the Lopes by a score of 152-138. On the men's side, the Scarlet & Gray fell to GCU 155-144. 

THE RUNDOWN WOMEN:
- In the 1000 free, senior Hannah Jones produced a first-place finish with a time of 10:11.25.
- Compiling a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free, senior Marta Klimek was the top Rebel finisher in first place (1:48.19). Following Klimek were senior Gina Miller in second (1:49.39) and sophomore Grace Wharton in third (1:49.39).
- Junior Dominika Trentkiewicz picked up a win in the 100 back, clocking a time of 54.76.
- In her second win of the day, Klimek swam a 4:56.24 in the 500 free. Additionally, Jones followed closely behind in second (4:58.09).
- Speeding her way to a victory in the 100 fly, junior Fernanda Mendez Guerra powered her way to a time of 53.02.
- Adding another individual Scarlet & Gray victory, Wharton sped her way to a winning time of 2:01.81 in the 200 IM.
- In the 1-meter dive, sophomore Wylde Chupich dove to a first-place finish with a score of 267.90.

THE RUNDOWN MEN:
- The Rebels received a 1-2 sweep in the 1000 free from freshmen Luke Guerrero and Logan Calhoun. Guerrero's victory came off a time of 9:25.54, while Calhoun followed behind in second place (9:28.49).
- Dominating the freestyle events, junior Ambrus Barcsak won the 200 free (1:37.64) and 100 free (45.00).
- Senior Ian Belflower added individual victories in the 200 fly (1:45.88) and 200 IM (1:49.65).
- In the 50 free, senior Bryson Huey clocked a winning time of 19.97.
- In a 1-2 finish of the 200 back, junior Tatsuki Inoue sped his way to first place (1:45.94) and junior Wikus Potgieter placed second (1:47.99).
- Calhoun took home a victory in the 500 free (4:30.11). Additionally, Guerrero came in second place (4:31.55).

UP NEXT: The UNLV men's swimming and diving teams will hit the road for a dual meet against USC on Friday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. PT.
