Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn Named Old Trapper Mountain West Men's Basketball Player Of The Week For Second Time

Junior guard led UNLV to a 2-0 week, averaging 30 points per game.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday.

The junior guard led the Runnin' Rebels to a 2-0 week last week, averaging 30 points per game in a home win over San Jose State (82-75) and an upset victory on the road at Boise State in overtime (86-83).

The Lafayette, Indiana, native, who transferred to UNLV from Illinois prior to this season, shot 56.1% from the field (23 of 41) and 50% on 3-pointers (10 of 20) for the week, also dishing out 3.5 assists per game, and recording 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.

At Boise State on Friday night, he scored 25 of his career-high 36 points in the second half, including the game-tying 3-pointer with 38 seconds left, to lead the Runnin' Rebels back from 23 points down. He single-handedly outscored Boise State 22-19 in the final 11:25 of regulation. It marked UNLV's highest individual scoring total in a game since Bryce Hamilton had 42 points at Colorado State in 2022.

Gibbs-Lawhorn, who played all 45 of the game's minutes against the Broncos, shot 13 of 22 from the field, including 6 of 123 from 3-point range. He also made all four of his free throw attempts, with three rebounds, and two steals.

In Tuesday night's win over SJSU, he played all 40 minutes and scored a game-high 24 points with five assists, four rebounds, and three steals. He was 10 of 19 from the field, including 4 of 8 on 3-pointers.

This was the second Mountain West Player of the Week honor for UNLV this season. Tyrin Jones was named the league's Freshman of the Week on Dec. 23.
