LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team is part of the national rankings for the second straight season as the Rebels came in at No. 74 in this week's Division I ITA Rankings.
The Rebels, under third-year head coach Andy Jackson, hold a 5-3 overall mark in duals this season, including dropping a heartbreaker to now-No. 14 USC by the score of 4-3 in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Last year at this time, UNLV was ranked 73rd to end a long drought for the program as its previous appearance on an ITA list came in 2013.
Individually, Rebel standout
Ilia Snitari continued his stay in the ITA Singles Rankings, coming in at No. 50 with a record of 18-2 overall as a sophomore. In addition, UNLV saw its first doubles team earn a national ranking in 11 years as Snitari and partner
Arda Karakas debuted at No. 52 with a 6-0 mark. The squad's previous ranked doubles team was made up of current assistant coach Denys Pume and Jakob Amilon, who finished the 2015 season at No. 80.
Next up, the Rebels head to California for the third straight weekend, starting with a match at Pacific on Friday set for 1 p.m. and then head to Santa Clara on Sunday morning.
UNLV's next home match is February 27 when it opens Mountain West play vs. Grand Canyon at 1 p.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
