Rebels Earn Three Medals In MW Championship Finale

HOUSTON (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's swimming and diving team earned three medals and set a school record as it wrapped up the Mountain West Championships Saturday at CRWC Natatorium.

Starting the day strong, junior Ava Olson broke a 15-year-old program record in the 1650 free (16:23.21) en route to earning a silver medal and her second NCAA qualifying time of the week. She bested the previous long-standing record held by former Rebel Jessica Heim since 2011.

Adding her third silver medal of the weekend, sophomore Grace Wharton swam the second-fastest time in school history in the 200 back (1:55.32).

Closing the meet strong, the Scarlet & Gray 400 free relay 'A' team of junior Fernanda Mendez Guerra, seniors Averi Webb, Gina Miller and Erika Carlson earned a bronze medal and posted the second fastest-time in school history (3:17.01).

As a team, the Scarlet & Gray finished in third place with 1,083 points, landing ahead of UNR in fifth (861.5 points). With the higher finish over the Wolf Pack, the Rebels claimed 1.5 points in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union. San Diego State (1,367.5) won the team title.

THE RUNDOWN:
- On platform, sophomore Allyse Abbott dove to a 10th-place finish with a score of 227.80.
