PHARR, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's swimming and diving team won two event titles as part of a three-medal finals session on Thursday's second day of the MPSF Championships at City of Pharr-PSJA Natatorium.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:
Senior Bryson Huey sped his way to a 50 free conference title (19.20) and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships.
In another Scarlet & Gray gold medal performance, the 200 free relay 'A' team of senior Bryson Huey, sophomore Lucas Diermayr, junior Wikus Potgieter and redshirt sophomore Emil Perez posted a time of 1:17.70.
Adding another podium finish for the Rebels, junior Ambrus Barcsak took bronze in the 500 free with a time of 4:22.57.
THE RUNDOWN:
- In the 1-meter dive, freshman Evan Stingley earned a fifth-place finish with the third-best score in program history (325.55).
- In the 200 IM finals, freshman Kian Keylock finished fifth with a time of 1:45.44, while senior Ian Belflower finished eighth (1:48.37).
- Joining Barcsak in the 500 free finals, freshman Logan Calhoun placed fifth (4:24.16) and freshman counterpart Luke Guerrero followed eighth (4:26.73), respectively.
- Adding points for the Rebels in the 50 free finals, Diermayr reeled in a fourth-place finish (19.73). Additionally, Perez grabbed a sixth-place finish (19.91).
QUOTABLE: "We had two big wins today from our sprinters and a big congrats to Bryson for making NCAAs! He's put a lot of work in over the last five years to get there. The team is excited to be in the hunt with Wyoming and Air Force. It's looking to be a close one this year."
