PHARR, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's swimming and diving team collected two event titles and seven total medals to remain in championship contention Friday at the MPSF Championships at City of Pharr-PSJA Natatorium.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:
The Rebels earned a 1-2 podium finish in the 100 back. Junior Wikus Potgieter claimed the conference title with the second-fastest time in program history (46.32). Taking silver was junior Tatsuki Inoue who produced the fourth-fastest time in school history (46.52).
Adding another Scarlet & Gray conference title, the 400 medley relay 'A' team of Potgieter, sophomore Ty Schneider, seniors Ian Belflower and Bryson Huey posted the second-fastest time in program history (3:07.92).
UNLV claimed more silver medals on the night with junior Ambrus Barcsak in the 200 free in the second-quickest time in school history (1:34.21). Belflower also earned the silver distinction in the 100 fly with the third-fastest time in program history (46.27).
Adding more podium finishes, Schneider took bronze in the 100 breast with the seventh-fastest time in school history (53.40). Additionally, Diermayr also earned bronze in the 100 fly with the fourth-quickest time in program history (46.46).
THE RUNDOWN:
- Freshman Evan Stingley placed fifth on platform with a score of 329.45. During prelims, he broke the school record with a score of 375.20.
- In the 100 fly finals, the Rebels were also represented by Potgieter in fifth (47.02), Huey in seventh (47.34) and redshirt sophomore Emil Perez in eighth (47.75).
- Adding more top-8 finishes in the 200 free, sophomore Kiril Stepanov placed fifth (1:37.54) and redshirt junior Colby Raffel placed sixth (1:37.76).
- Rounding out the Rebels' top-8 finishes on the night, sophomore Yamato Lucero finished sixth in the 100 breast (54.04) and freshman Wes Mank finished eighth in the 100 back (49.29).
UP NEXT: The championship meet will conclude on Saturday with prelims at 8 a.m. PT and finals at 4 p.m. PT.
